How do I modify a post in Conversations?

This article covers the methods to modify a post in the Conversations tool. Note that you need the required permission to make any changes. Actions taken on Questions/Discussions will also affect Answers/Replies and Comments associated with them. For instance, if you lock a Question, the Answers and Comments linked to it will also be locked. Comments do not offer any of these actions.

Go to the Conversations tool.

Select the Conversations tool from the Tool Menu of your site. 

Click on a topic to view it.

Click on an existing topic in the conversations area of the page.

  1. Click the Topic options menu icon in the topic area.
  2. Select Edit to change the content or settings of the topic.
  3. Select Delete to delete the topic from the Conversations tool in your site. This will also delete answers to the topic.
  4. Select Hide to retain the topic but make it unavailable to students.
  5. Select Lock to prevent new posts to the topic.

The topic will display.

  1. Click the Topic options menu icon in the topic area.
  2. Click Edit to change the content or settings of the topic. The Edit Topic screen will display to you.

  1. Click the Topic options menu icon in the topic area.
  2. Select Hide to remove the post from student view. This action will not delete the topic.

The hidden topic will display a red eye icon (This topic is hidden) in the topic list and the message "This topic is hidden from students. Click 'Show' in the options menu to show it" will appear in the conversation area for topic.

  1. Click the Topic options menu icon in the topic area.
  2. Select Show to return the topic to the student view of the Conversations tool.

Locking and Unlocking a topic

  1. Click the Topic options menu icon in the topic area.
  2. Select Lock to prevent new posts to the topic. While a topic is locked, it is viewable by students but cannot be modified.

The locked topic will display a red lock icon (This topic is locked) in the topic list and the message "This topic is locked and no changes can be made. Click 'Unlock' in the options menu to unlock it." will appear in the conversation area for topic.

  1. Click the Topic options menu icon in the topic area.
  2. Select Unlock to allow posting to the topic.

Deleting a Post

  1. Click the Topic options menu icon in the topic area.
  2. Select Delete to delete the topic from the Conversations tool in your site. This will also delete answers to the topic.

Click OK to confirm deletion.
